I'm not sure size wise how one would fit (the original basket may have been larger, I don't know) but an old coke or pepsi crate would look awesome up front. I think at one time fruit came in wooden crates too, and old fruit crate would probably work just as well.

would like the basket, but if cant find a schwinn one will make my own...something like a wooden truck bed with wood side rails?

I used a wooden fish crate that I bought brand new for a kids toybox. The kids got older so I took it back for this
