Front Axles

I have an aluminum front rim from a mtn bike that I think is 3/8 diameter. Can you put the smaller size axle in this wheel to mount onto the older spade forks.? I have some old kids bike rims with the smaller axles.

Possibly. I think the problem will be the size of the bearing cones from the smaller axle. Probably easier to just grind flat spots on opposite sides of the 3/8 axle until it will fit the fork.
