Does anyone have experience or suggested reading materials or links for internally geared hubs?

8 speeds, internal? Interesting especially here in north Jersey. I find the Schwinn 5 speed frewheel sufficient for most riding but these newer hubs are available with disc brakes, something I would like to try.

Yesterday I just finished lacing up a wheel with a new 7sp Nexus hub. Since I dont have any miles on it I cant say how good/poorly this hub performs: I'll let other people do that.

What I will say is that buying these parts (7sp) have been a little bit of a challenge. I found a new hub inexpensively at one place, but finding (reasonably priced) the small parts bag and shifter took forever! whereas the 8sp hubs/parts kit/shifter seem to be everywhere and affordable. Now some of the Shimano small parts kits and shifters my be interchangeable, I dont know. Next time I will probably single source the parts from one location even if I have to pay a little more. It would have saved me lots of time and aggravation....
