I went to the city today and had a look at the old bikes our co-op is offering. I was hoping for a diamond frame bike, possibly 28", something simple for the commute to the train station. There was this one:
It has a few interesting touches. The front is not very inspiring, long gooseneck, ugly bars, a reflector (or Rückstrahler), modern lamp:
The seat is soft and comfy and has a pattern:
It also has a working suspension seat post:
It has a front drum brake, I guess from Sachs:
It has a Sram 7sp with a ckickbox:
This the shifter, the gear you use is in red, cool feature, it also sports Sram grips:
The chain guard:
The bell:
The rear, nice crash cage on the tail light:
And the dynamo has a huge spring:
The paint has seen better days obviously, but everything functions, drum brake and coaster brake work, gearing is smooth and pleasant, the seat is cushioned and they asked 20 bucks for it and even gave me a certificate that I bought it from them.
I am quite happy because my other commuter has bad crank noises and only one speed which is OK for my groceries route, but not for the daily commute to the station.
