Giving a skate helmet tweed/steampunk style?

Finished the goggles. Used an old shoe lace doubled over for some extra thickness, and then wrapped in in electrical tape. Total cost $8

you should wrap a cap (ball cap) like piece of cardboard in the same fabric and staple it to the bottom/rear of the helmet. (sorta hidden underneath)

would make it look like alot of the hats on the first page.
 
the helmet wrap job doesn't look too bad. a tartan or houndstooth fabric, and the addition of a brim would have made it look just like a cap. the old tweed paperboy caps are probably baggy enough to squeeze a helmet into. it's worth searching the thrift stores for one. if the law doesn't specifically call for a approved helmet, then try your luck at finding an old style "american football" leather helmet. or even a polo helmet for that matter. there's plenty of good ideas on here!
