Since many of the old railroad right-of-ways are now abandoned in the Midwest, there has been an effort to convert them to bike trails. Many landowners object as they say it gives anyone access to their land, but they are generally not successful at blocking the efforts. One good thing about using the railroad right-of-way is that the railroad graded everything for the trains. All hills and dips have been removed years ago for the train, making it an easy ride.
The Florida trail sounds great. I'd take my fishing pole and catch my dinner on the way. Gary
