More than one manufacturer - the ones I've seen the most of were made by Monark.

They were made for many years, not sure the exact. Post some pics for better info.

i think they were made from the early 50s to the early 60s most of the ones i've seen were columbia. and a lot of them were middleweight. i have a early 50s columbia highway patrol that is a middleweight. and mine is identical of a 1947 columbia middleweight. i always thought they were left over bikes that never sold, and rebadged and put up for sale again.

I got two one says highway patrol on chain guard and the other says jc higgins one is a 1961 the other 1963 both are mw

I'm asking because there's one listed on the bay that's about 20 minutes from me pickup only......it's more than I am willing to pay but if it doesn't sell I might make an offer on it...

That one is Columbia built and from the 50s. Even with that being a very basic model If the wheels are decent and the chrome is salvageable $80 bux is fair. If you could get the serial number off the bottom bracket you could date it exactly on Mr Columbias web site.

i would look some were else. the bike doesn't have the tank. and its probably a middleweight.

The wheels look pretty rough, but I don't think 80 is unreasonable.
50 would be better. :mrgreen:
