Picked this up today...head badge says: Goodyear Highway Patrol by Columbia. Has a Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub that says 66.
No chainguard or tank to see which model.....did this come with the Sturmey? Has original tires, lots of cracks, will change out.
Will go a little wider....these are 26x 1 3/8. Is seat original? Looks like a Huffy seat. What do you think? Paid 40.

Those 26 x 1 3/8ths tires are different from 26 x 1.75 or wider. You'll need different rims to go wider. It may be best to get new whitewalls the same size as the front brake may not reach.
The bike looks original with just the chain guard and fenders removed. I think you got a good deal, the paint looks good too. Tires is all it needs along with some little things.

If you're going to use it that's a fair price, but I don't think you'd get much more than that if you tried to flip it. those frames are pretty resilient, but those wheels are pretty much path and pavement duty. Get the highest pressure tires you can find. My most used bike has EA3 wheels with 65lb tires, they roll easy but you need to go easy over curbs and loose rocks

Since your rear hub is 3 with coaster, you could go with the standard 26" wheels and not worry about a front brake.

The fork and chain stays look wide enough for a 2.125 tire, but I can't see the seat stay width. Even so, 1.75 rims and tires would fit and you would have a wide selection of tires. Like a Varsity conversion or my 65 Continental converted to standard size 26" wheels with 26 x 1.90 tires.

Or get a donor single speed beach cruiser and swap the wheels and tires right in and keep your 3 speed wheelset for road use.

I use a 26 13/8 on gravel and road the kenda k40 are the best I've used that size stay away from cheap Chinese tires with the white wall they'll fit on the rim but not the fender and look like crap.

The letter starting the serial # is the year, seat is era correct, but more likely a middleweight piece. -Adam

All the bits are easily worth $40. Nice find! I would strip it and move the parts to a frame that is a bit more interesting, and make a hub swap to a wider rim. But it looks cool in its found condition. Love the seat!
