Wanted to try my hand at welding and been dropping hits to the wife that my birthday is coming up and a MIG welder sure would be nice to have. Well, my birthday came and, BAM, my sweetie got me the MIG welder — with a catch, she wants me to build her a custom 3-wheeler bike. First, I have to learn how to MIG weld properly and second, how do I go about fabricating a 3-wheeler. Any tips or suggestions on both topics?

Congrats on the new welder. One of my first projects when I got mine was a custom trike.

I based the trike on plans from Atomic Zombie. The plans seem pricey on the site, but they have published a couple books that you can get used on amazon for less than $10. This is one of the books that I got and has really well done plans in it.

Thanks, Mike, this is kind of the set-up that I am looking for, a recumbent-ish style. The wife has a bad knee and needs a leaning back position.

I accept your challenge, here's the proof. 8)
It is a Lincoln Flux-core wire welder, 35 - 88 amps DC output range. Now, have to get gloves, welding table and most of all, how to properly operate it. Now, don't get any ideas and try to come and snatch it, or, my guard cat will mistake you for his scratch pole.

cool, looks similar size to my SP135 which came with a cheezy hand held mask, so I went and bought a helmet, I use the hand held more! I think that unless you spring for a autodark you might be happy with a hand held.

Congrats on the mig, I love mine, if i'm not mistaken that C-list Schwinn trike is an aluminum frame and you would need a different welder for that bad boy.

Dang, on the alum' frame. Any pointers on using the MIG?

Never mind the welder, look how long that cats legs are!
He (or she) lays on the back of the couch and the legs stick out from under the box. WOW!
