Okay that is not the official name because there is none. My twin brother and I are riding a 170 mile loop on old railbeds. The loop comprises of other official rail trails including Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes and the Route of the Hiawatha. There also is the Old Milwaukee Road that is rail bed but not officially a formal trail. We will link these 3 sections up and ride this in apprx. 3.5 days . Self supported with camping along the way. I have ridden the Hiawatha before and the Weiser River Trail but never anything this long. I am riding my Xtracycle and my brother has full paniers. I believe that Locojoe has ridden the Hiawatha and dirtywater has ridden parts of the CDA trail.

The tunnels are fun too especially the Taft tunnel at 1.6 miles long.

Re: Grand Rail Trail of North Idaho

Yes we've ridden the Hiawatha twice and the Coeur d'Alenes once. 2005 the last time we were there. As I'm sure I've said before the Route of the Hiawatha probably my favorite rail-to-trail of all that we've ridden. The Coeur d'Alenes is a nice ride. Beautiful country up there. This will be an epic rail-to-trail adventure. Be safe, have fun and take notes and plenty of photos. We'll be anxiously awaiting to hear about it.

And you enter it in one state and exit in another. Thought that was cool.

BTW the Coeur d'Alenes... we didn't ride the entire trail. We started at one of those trail heads just west of Wallace and rode to it's west end. Wish I'd documented it better.

Also seeing the map reminded me. There's a nice single track trail near St Regis, Montana. The Clark Fork River trail.

Re: Grand Rail Trail of North Idaho

how does the bike handle with the extracyle?
is its harder on climbs due to the long wheelbase?
