Since starting my new job in Wilmington (a fantastic bicycling town also) I have been renting a little shack in Carolina Beach and taking serious advantage of being able to safely ride my bike downtown to eat, drink and be merry! Much better than Myrtle Beach, which has turned into a giant seaside hospice care facility for dying geezers, where there is no fun aloud.
At any rate here's a little tour of the town starting from my front porch.
Go this way to get to the river..
and this way to get to the ocean....
Neither one is very far. Just to the right of the stop sign in the last pic the bike lane starts.
Here's a downtown shot
(musically) Will I see you tonight, on a downtown lane? ( no bricks from Rod Stewart fans please )
Down a side street this can be found
My beautiful spokes-model is embarrassed at having to ride her mountain bike because some slacker needs to put new bottom bracket bearings in her Western Flyer
Views of the lake that is circled by the trail.
My kind of water crossing
Now lets go to the boardwalk...
Not everything here is perfect
Still a nice boardwalk though.
Now for some local wildlife!
How about some 2 wheeled wildlife?
the Wanda Inn Parking lot
the book store
and the Fat Pelican
Of course if you don't bring your own your toys you can rent some.
Every porch has a couple of bikes on it, mostly a cruiser crowd.
Plus Fort Fisher is right down the road with miles of trails available.
Just thought some of you might like to see this. I don't know how it is in the summer, but right now it is great!
