Since starting my new job in Wilmington (a fantastic bicycling town also) I have been renting a little shack in Carolina Beach and taking serious advantage of being able to safely ride my bike downtown to eat, drink and be merry! Much better than Myrtle Beach, which has turned into a giant seaside hospice care facility for dying geezers, where there is no fun aloud.
At any rate here's a little tour of the town starting from my front porch.

Go this way to get to the river..

and this way to get to the ocean....

Neither one is very far. Just to the right of the stop sign in the last pic the bike lane starts.

Here's a downtown shot

(musically) Will I see you tonight, on a downtown lane? ( no bricks from Rod Stewart fans please )
Down a side street this can be found

My beautiful spokes-model is embarrassed at having to ride her mountain bike because some slacker needs to put new bottom bracket bearings in her Western Flyer

Every porch has a couple of bikes on it, mostly a cruiser crowd.
Plus Fort Fisher is right down the road with miles of trails available.
Just thought some of you might like to see this. I don't know how it is in the summer, but right now it is great!

The whole Wilmington area is great. I lived at the Wrightville Beach bridge for a couple of years. Do they still have live music at the Ice House? Wilmington always reminded me of a small Savannah.

I don't know about the Ice House (yet) but they just had a little festival down on Front Street that was a lot of fun.
Plus they have a bike shop called Two Wheeler Dealer where they have 3 foot tall ape hangers and carbon fiber Trek race bikes for sale in the same show room. (review soon)
I used to party in Savannah years ago when I was a younger and dumber. It's a great place to have fun even if you're not into the wild life. The River Street area was always interesting? Is the Churchill Pub still open?

The old Churchill's on Drayton burned down, but he opened a bigger place on Bay Street across from City Hall.
How can you not have fun in a city that allows "To Go" cups when you leave the bar!!!

I lived there 2000-2004 great place to live/ visit! I think I drove my truck maybe 10 times in four years. Found that a skateboard or bike will get you most anywhere you want to go!

I just posted a couple weeks ago trying to get ideas on where to take the cruisers for vacation. Looks cool!

I can recommend most of the southeastern NC coastal areas for that. The southern part of the SC Grand Strand is cool (Murrell's Inlet, Pawley's Island etc.) if you have the moolah. Of course since my parents lived there for years I went as much as I wanted to. Charleston is the best city in SC for bicycling. Just remember that most people in my home state of SC consider bicycles to be little more than chew toys for their Escalades and Yukons, so don't let your guard down.
Peace Y'all
