I'm new to the RRB community. i picked this jc higgins up last month while i was at the scrap yard. a guy came in with it on his truck and i asked him what he intended on doing with it. he looked at me and said "I'm gonna scrap it" and when i asked him if i could have it and throw it on my truck he looked even more confused and said " i guess". soooo, here it is.......... i plan on keeping it original and throwing some new tires on and just cleaning up the paint and taking it apart to grease it up. also, i've had a tough time at the exact model of this any help?

NO JOKE!! on the side i scrap and i was down there at about 6:15 in the morning before work and i nearly soiled myself at what i had found. i've been collecting/messing around with bikes since i was about 15 and i'm 30 now and i've never seen one in person. I have it hanging in my basement and i still can't believe it whenever i see it.

   I don't believe it

Seriously? Is this a joke thread?
That's a mighty rare and sought after old bike. Very nice score, welcome to RRB.

Ditto. The stickered/decal version of those pipe is cool enough, but the real deal is so much better.

That thing is SICK! What on earth are people thinking when they go to scrap something like that. Even if you dont know bikes, you should be able to look at that with no bike knowledge and say, hey this should be worth a lot more than scrap :? Good thing for you that he didn't care. Great score!

Some of you know, others don't, the back-story of this bike. This was the first version of the "Header Bike" that was produced, the VAST majority of which are the decal type. When this version hit the streets they soon discovered that kids were bashing and bruising their knees on those metal "headers" so they promptly switched to the decal style. I believe this type was only manufactured for a few months!

The whole original bike is there. Even the pedals. Original tires too? That's incredible!

Probably a roll of cash in the tank too!

y y y ya found that at a scrap yard for FREE!??? imposible! lol

Love it! I used to want a Schwinn Black Phantom, but this blows that out of the water! :D

Incredible! And a remarkable story. Very rare Murray made bike. Only seen pics of 1 or 2 others.
