You know I look at these other sites and I see people doing all kinds of strange things to bikes...A 16'' slick on the back with a real radical long springer on the front.....Some really wild bends creating a fantastic bike frame. Then I look around RRB and its....well I changed my pedals and flipped my bars over ...How do you like my new build. Come on folks there are some of the most talented people around on this site. I look at some of the past builds and go mannn that was cool and how did he do that. I know everybody dosent have a welder and can do some earth shattering things to metal , but we shouldnt have to wait for an anything goes buildoff to produce something great. I had to go to the skin specialist and he froze about 30 spots on my arms that were pre cancerous...yeh yeh yeh. As soon as these heal enough to get back to building I'm going to try for absurdity on a build. I think everybody should get their creative juices flowing and join me in the Build Something Wild . I know that its out there and all it will take is to watch a few Steven King movies and get properly motivated and then build something that you can be proud of.

maybe the next buildoff should require a serious welding aspect, or be a burrito buildoff. i agree i keep looking in the build section for bikes that have crazy welded mods or fully home made bikes/parts and not seeing much. after i cut off the seat/chain stays on my huffy and welded them back upside down it made a HUGE difference in how the bike looked, and its amazing what splicing 6" of pipe here or there can do to a bike.

you forgot i put on some apes and whitewalls :p
for the record i agree that the flipped bars is waaaaaaaaaaaay overdone

I've just been waiting for it to cool off so I can work in my garage. Well, it finally did, a cool front went through yesterday and it's still hot, but it's dry. I have a huge pile of stuff to clean out before I start on my next build, but I'll probably do it and clean up at the same time. I have a military medic bike in the works, but I'd rather start with an idea I've been thinking of, the Psycho Truck. I thought it would be a good contender for the next build off, but I'm not going to wait. I'll get a thread going soon.

I could possibly be persuaded to start a section for an unofficial, anything goes build off before the weather starts getting cold.

Hmmmm....

Well hurry up I'm heading for a heart specialist tomorrow and If he tells me I'm not going to die soon and the skin guys stuff heals I'm ready to build something. I had some weird dreams last night , so maybe its my mind getting ready....or the hot sauce.

you know i did start thinking about taking a welding class. the things floating around in my mind, but for now i am sticking with turning my bars upside down and adding white walls.
Well then we will be looking forward to your new build. :D

I guess I should contribute instead of detract.

-I rarely have started with a whole bike.
-I really enjoy the hunt for to getting everything needed to build a bike.
-I don' t really like to paint, patina for me.
-I don' t have bike with flipped bars ( except the moustache bars I put on my new road bike)

-I doubt I will ever weld. I took a class in college for fun, but never really took to it.

Well Clancy ,custom frame building is probably not for everybody anyway. I look at bikes and see something else inside my head...may be Twinkie poisoning or something. I think they guy that designs a cool frame that I like is nothing special. There are only so many ways to weld tubes together. I will try for something unique this next one . I have the time and the stuff ,and maybe there is a custom frame in my head that will make some guy somewhere go Mannn how did he come up with that. I'm just saying for those that can ...its time to.

Geez and I just flipped the bars and lowered the seat on my first 'attempt' at a rat rod!
Actually, I'm just getting back into bikes for the first time since I was a kid (was into hot rods for the last 25 or so years).
I've been really inspired by all the cool builds on here and have some ideas for future projects.
Part of my problem is that most of the bikes I have are in really nice original condition (once cleaned up) and I have a hard time wanting to cut one up (same with cars).
I'm getting there though, still learning all the tricks.

Leave them alone...buy some cheap pipe and design your own. I did streetrods for about 15 years. Loved the build there too ,but this is much quicker..and cheaper

Amen to that!
Quicker, cheaper (and easier) I like!
I'm even starting to sell off some of my car projects that I'll never have time for.
In the few short months I've been back into bikes, my garage has exploded with projects and 'just couldn't pass up' deals.
The ideas I'm getting will probably require building from scratch, which is why I was asking you so many questions about tubing benders, etc...(on another thread).
After I sell off some I've re-done recently I'm probably going to buy a bender and get to work!

I'm sure I'd be building some wilder stuff if I could weld. As it is I'm pretty much confined to weld free creation.

im with you on all of those ^^^

9ike Industries (myself, Excitbike, and one of our friends) has some pretty interesting builds in the planning stage. We're still working on Cloud 9 which there is a thread for on here. Once I can get Cloud 9 out my workshop the next build will start. Should be something fun and different. I know Excitebike came up with a really awesome idea yesterday we might try out on the next build. I agree Stretch, the crazier the better.....
