yeah, my honda vtx was made at the ohio plant. engine cast, frame built, and with few exceptions (shocks, forks, some engine internals) all in ohio. i didn't know that when i got it, but i joined a forum for them and some of the more argumentive members like to throw that out when the "real american bike" argument gets going.
i have to say though, cruiser motorcycles were never my thing. that's pretty much why harleys have no special place for me. i just got mine 'cause it was a smokin' deal (really, check your local honda dealer to see if they have any nos 1800's left. mine still has two 2008's). i'm due for my third sceduled maintenace, but with just over 12k mls it's been bulletproof.
when i was a kid all the older riders had mostly kawasaki kz's, and later more sporting type bikes. one younger kid got a small cruiser, but it was a kawasaki too. the only harley rider i knew was a kid with a harley dirt bike (one of those they made in the 70's). my x has grown on me and i mean to keep it, but if i could buy a second bike i'd switch back to a dual-purpose, adventure bike (a buell ulysses is the closest to wanting a harley i've ever been) or sport tourer.
