Just picked up my dads 63 Typhoon! Red/white original paint. Rides like a 50 year old bike. Need help with upgrades so it cruises like a new bike! Want to retain paint but upgrade to 2013 mechanics. Where to begin? Any build threads I should mirror? Help!!! Thanks! Great site!

Welcome! Check out the How To and Builds pages. Plenty of ideas here for anything you want to upgrade or build.

Welcome !!!

Technology hasn't changed much as far as coaster brake bikes go. The old bendix hubs they used roll smoother than what's available today if the hubs not worn out. Those bikes were also targeted at kids, playing with the seat position and bars can make them a lot more comfortable for someone old enough to have a drivers license. The rims on the wheels are the worst part about the typhoons (and other middleweights), the originals are an oddball tire size so it limits your tire options, if you swap to standard wheels you have a lot more tire options only limited by the space in the frame and fork (and fenders).

Show us some pics of what your working with !!! We like bike pics :)
