Not sure on the price or value, but it looks like a decent and solid bike. Depending on how much work he needs done, I'd trade it.

Can't you discount your own personal labor rate??? :D

cleveland welding made for sure...maybe a a 50's western flyer,hiawatha,or a few others......
how much does he owe you? its about a $100-$150 bike(sorry i cant narrow it down a little more but my interests are in the teens-30's)......
try asking buzzy about this one(dont know if its his) but........

looks very similar

alittle paint and your time for that bike? jen i think its a no brainer. do it in your down time. just be sure to let him know he's getting the deal of a lifetime, and you'd apprieciate a heads up for other vintage items of interest (bikes/car stuff etc)

chances are, if your doing him the favor, he'll remember you next time he crosses paths with an old cheap bike etc.

i love to barter. it does away with the "value" aspect of the trade. ya both walk away with something ya want, ya both walk away happy. ya wouldn't make the trade if you it weren't so.

if your feeling alittle short changed on your end of the agreement, perhaps trade with the promise, he owes you cash/old bike/new brushes in the future, when times are better for him. chances are, eventually he'll come across another item of interest he wont have to shell out too much cash for.

Definitely a mid 50s CWC bike, 26" wheels. Count the spokes halfway round, if it's close to 18, gotta be a 26er. I use this technique on ebay sometimes. I'd say it's worth $100ish, so there ya go. Also, CWC did buy Shelby around that time, and used the name up into the early 60s, so it could be a CWC Shelby. ~Adam

Not sure how tall you are, but a 24" male bike might end up being the perfect fit for you.

Seems like a cool trade to me....unless the stripping job is huge!

These frames usually take a 24X3 tire no problem even a Kenda Kraze on some, so if it's a bit tall you can always go that route and lower it a bit, plus lowered fork.

Hey Jen, just my opinion here, but if you like the bike, and you think that it is worth the work, then that is what really matters. You might tell the guy that he is getting the best part of the deal and tell him that whenever anybody asks about the striping, he needs to refer them to you. Do the best striping you can for him, and let him show it off. Then, if anyone asks him about the cost, all that he can say is that he gave up his special antique bike with loads of sentimental value. You might end up with a few referrals off of him. You will for sure get a cool bike. Like I heard someone else say . . . antique bikes have been out of production for quite a while now!
I would like to know what you decide, and if you do the trade, please show some photos of your work. All the best to you!
