My guess.

I'm basically winging it, but i'd guess it's an early post-war Snyder-built frame with a Wards Hawthorne badge.

The frame is indeed built by HP Snyder; 1941 would be my guess. Snyder did provide frames to Montgomery Ward, so the Hawthorne badge is likely correct.

The numbers you posted are actually not the manufacturers serial number, they were stamped afterward. Maybe it was a bicycle at an auto factory, or stamped by the owner to identify if stolen, any number of things--but if you flip the bike over, you'll find the real serial on the bottom bracket and I reckon you'll also see something like SE14.

Thanks guys, that Hawthorne badge looks like a perfect fit.

jpromo.... I had removed all paint on the bottom bracket and has no stamping. found a chart on line that shows some models with the serial numbers on the seat tube. Hawthorne, roll fast, gray hound, Murray, gold medal, American flyer. Did find a bike on feebay with the same chain ring and shows to be a Hawthorne. Think your in the ball park on the year but might be a off badged bike
