It's time to start planning my next build! So, bear with me while I describe my direction...

I have a Spaceliner frame that I want to build into a hot rod style bike. Picture part cruiser, part big BMX, part muscle bike....all attitude!!!

Parts stash includes:
-said Spaceliner frame, some rust pits but a really solid frame
-simple Murray fork
-late Spaceliner truss rod assembly
-several styles of Murray rear racks
-Murray chainguards
-Black flip-flop rear hub
-disc front hub
-2 yard sale 160mm discs
-Nice black eyeleted 36-hole rims
-freewheel sprocket
-cool little brake levers

I also have:
-Several other forks, Murray springer, Schwinn copies, OCC triple fork
-mishmash of handlebars, seats, necks, pedals, etc...

I really want this thing to have attitude but be easy to ride...kind of a "greenway bike on steroids". It will see use as a greenway bike, neighborhood runabout, car show cruiser... Something that can be ridden slow most of the time but pushed occasionally just for grins and giggles.

I want it to at least compliment my old truck, which will be satin black with gold, silver and white trim/stripes/accents.

Having said all that, I now open the floor for innovative ideas, past experiences (positive and negative), previous builds, and things that you've always wanted to try but really wanted some sucker to try first!

Photos of full rides, details, oopses...all welcome and solicited! Yep, I'm asking for it...

You had me at Spaceliner frame , I have a big soft spot for those stylish frame lines, then you mentioned the triple tree fork, I see it lean and meen....build on !

Sounds cool for sure!!

Question #1 What year is your truck and what have you done to it?

Here's a couple thoughts photo inspiration wise... I LOVE "Roth-style" rods to start with. Maybe take the gold as the main color (could be crazy cool on a liner frame IMO) and accent that with white and satin black. You could go with a real heavy flake in the gold as well :) check these pics out! El Tiki (first 3) was built by a local old school fabricator entirely using pre '55 parts he had in his shop on one of his signature hand built frames.

The wcc fork on a liner frame would look good. The Ross frame I used in the winter build off has similar lines, it looked good with that fork.

Maybe a long spring or hair pin saddle. Possibly some mini apes or bmx bars.
A bobbed rear fender, no front fender.

Tell us all about your truck... year/model, wheels/tires, how does it sit, etc.
It'd be super cool to mimic it as much as possible with the bike!

Joe,

My truck is a '46 Chevrolet pickup. Small journal 283 SBC, Muncie, MII...it will be satin black with gold metal flake interior paint, white/black/gold upholstery, gold/silver pinstripes and switching back-n-forth between AR TorqThrusts (early '60's look) and steelies with '50 Buick wheel covers (late '50's look).

Now you know the REST of the story...

Well, ratters...the OCC is a no-go...at least not with the front disc!! Not NEAR enough width!

And for future reference, I have TWO OCC forks....

So I'm back to the Murray fork with or without the (actually early) truss rods...

Not much clearance for the disc....

I like it!!
The rack being down tight on top of the front wheel makes it look lowered. It's cool.

Thanks, Joe, but it's not a rack! It's a truss bar assembly off what I think is an early Murray-built Western Flyer, either Spaceliner or Flightliner-style.

Yep, I know it's a truss rod setup but it looks like it's made to do double duty as a rack support... but at any rate, you've really nailed the stance!
I like rat rod bikes that even the casual clueless observer can tell aren't the latest Chinese Walmart styling package. Your bike is starting to say Hot Rod for sure.
Staring at those profile shots and trying to think old-school hot rod, maybe the white tire lettering needs to go? Depending on the era you're going for... white letters are a mid to late '60s and up kind of thing.

Edit: never mind, the disc brake sets the tone as later than '60s and the tires do look cool.

Finally got the eBay disk brake adapter for my flip-flop hub...

...so I could finish up the rear wheel build.

Installed a used headset just to get it all "assembles" and get an idea of ride height and how the "lines" looked...

...not too shabby!!

Love it! The wheels and tires are spot on and I love an old frame with disc brakes!

Luke.

Don't be so quick to love it just yet! I still have to figure out how to mount the calipers without making them look like add-ons!

Ideas/suggestions are welcomed!!!
