How much is a Sears Spaceliner that I won worth?

I won a Sears Spaceliner at a raffle last year, and the best I can tell when comparing to pictures, it's probably a 1964. It has the front spring suspension, which I understand to be more rare. When I picked it up, the guy told me that I could get $300 for it in it's current condition. I thought he was full of it, but part of me wonders how close that figure could be.

Is there anyone on the site that would have any idea what something like this would go for? I would like to sell on eBay, or possibly here, and am trying to figure out what I could expect to get.

Any help would be appreciated.

backpedaler always says "100 bucks" :lol: I'm no expert, but I'd think maybe $200 in that condition. More if you part it out, I know there's some members looking for that tank :)
 
Hi, I bought a much nicer boys spaceliner that was complete except for the rear carrier light for $200. I would also say part the bike out. My 2 cents.
 
You need to clean it with "00or "000"steel wool. Don't go over any of the lettering on the chainguard or the candy red paint on the forks or these details will dissappear! The steel wool won't scratch the chrome (as long as you use the "00" or "000") and will clean it up nicely. It will take about 2-3 days worth of elbow grease but it WILL clean up. I have an all chrome Amf skylark that was brown with rust like yours, spent 2 days cleaning it and it looks like NEW! Try it. It's worth the time and cash for the steel wool. Trust me!!
 
Thanks all for the good advice! The steel wool is a great idea, and I wish I would have thought of that myself.

Not really sure I have the time to part it out right now, so I'd much rather sell it as is, but who knows for sure.

Don't part it out, why would anyone wanna kill such a nice bicycle? find someone who wants to enjoy the bike and love it. I would buy it like that but i'm canadian and nobody likes shipping to us Lol well there are some good lads lol
 
Also, does anyone have any opinions on which is the best carrier to use to ship bikes? I got a quote from UPS to ship to the east coast from Iowa, and it was like $120 for shipping, and $25 for the box.

fedex ground is cheaper for me, ups isnt as bad if you box it your self and your boxes dont go over a certain size, you could probably cut that shipping cost in half if you used skinnier boxes. plus i get the feeling tha fedex is more relaxed with their dimensions.

OUCH!!! If the bike is packed in a used box from a local bike shop with the wheels removed and sent FedEx, it usually runs $40.00 or less. Seriously.

Most bikes that sell on eBay run less than 60.00 shipping. If not, I pass on those auctions.
 
I'm in Ames, IA - could save you the hassle of tear down/shipping if the price of the bike is right. PM me. :D
 
Nice bike. I would not sell for less than $200. Steel wool works good, but make sure you use 0000 grade and lubricate it with WD40 or chrome cleaner as you go along. I would not use it dry.

Ever use wood bleach crystals as a soak? (oxalic acid) Better results, no effort. Many a Schwinn wheel has been dipped and saved in my garage.
 
Ok everyone... Slight problem on the steel wool regardless of how fine the grades are :) On Spaceliners there is an extremely durable coating of clear coat over the chrome which will damage the coating. Thats the bad news... the good news is that if you want the bike to glow like its original state, you have to get that clear coating off. That takes more then steel wool. The chrome on the Spaceliner is wicked durable and will take a sledgehammer to break through it. Here is what I recommend based on personal experience from Spaceliners I have restored. A wire wheel on a drill. Ya I know everyone is saying thats insane! I thought that too when I started it.... The clear coat comes off easily and the chrome doesnt as much as have fine lines in it after the wire wheel. Here are a few pics of Spaceliners I have that I have used this method with restoring. When I got these Gems they were a total mess!!
