How to distress new paint job?

I want to paint a frame a dark blue or dark red with off white on the head tube and make it look old.

What are some of you guys doing to achieve that old look?

Use satin finish paint, leave it outside leaning against a tree, over-oil the chain with 3-in-1 and ride it in dusty conditions, don't clean it, don't be careful when you park (drop :mrgreen: ) or stow (cram :wink: ) it. Or use one of them thar fancy-pants layered and rubbed, chemical treatment, paint effect fakery methods. :lol: If I run across any of those threads, I'll post a link. :wink:

I would give the bike to my nephew to use for a few months. He'd leave it outside in the rain/snow, etc., beat the crap out of it and generally abuse it. Viola, distressed appearance achieved in no time! :mrgreen:

paint it red oxide primer then top color then sand through. wet sand top layer a bit to show paint under it in spots that whould wear out if you do to much just touch it up n start over good luck
