how to move a sprocket away from the frame

My chain is almost touching my rear tire, so I'm thinking the way to fix this is moving the sporcket out maybe 1/4".

Do they sell shims or washers for this?

Your local hardware store will have washers to fit in between you sprocket and the locking nut. Put you sprocket on the crank, next put a washer on, and then thread on the locking nut. This will offset your crank very slightly, but solve you tire clearance issue. I had to offset my mag sprocket on my krate build, the 5 speed sprocket is so big I had to shim it out 1/4" to clear the chainstay. Hope this helps.

I see that there'a already a washer that came with my BB set. After the sprocket goes on, a washer is on there followed by the threaded bearing race.

I'll just find one or two more washers the same size.

Depending on what kind of sprocket your using, you can put the sprocket on backwards. I did this when putting a 65 tooth exercise bike sprocket on a 76 schwinn.

i used a headset washer the other night to solve this same problem because i read somewhere on this forums that a guy did that.

I found this the other day when i was checking out the Chopperdome website, they sell sprockets that are offset to get your chain out farther
