I want to replace my hubs w/ something that has generally a better ride and is more durable(I'm talking about on a new Cranbrook). And I would like to have a quick release on the front. What do ya'll recommend that's nice and well, uhmmm....you know....cheap? (Hey, I'm a school teacher w/ a family, I gotta be cheap!)
I would like to replace my front hub first and then perhaps convert my coaster brake to a free wheel at a later time, if that helps answer the question. Mucho gracias!

Maybe you should try to pick up an old MTB somewhere with quick release wheels.

You can always take the cassette off the back and replace it with a freewheel.

If you find one that is a good brand like a Schwinn, Trek or Diamondback from the late 80s early 90s the hubs should be pretty decent.

Actually I was thinking new hubs. It's kinda nice to know the condition of the part...and have it all sparkly every now and then.

Do you want sparkly junk or good used parts. If money is an object then Steves suggestion makes good sense (cents :) )
You also might look arounfd your area for a bike coop. A lot of communities have nonprofit organizations that provide bikes for folks who can't afford new. Sometimes you can find parts pretty cheap.

I guess I need to be more specific. What hubs do ya'll recommend/use that are in the neighborhood of $30-40...or less?
