traded a freebie a buddy hooked me up with for a older huffy good vibrations. the frame doesn't seem bent, there is a lot of play in the front wheel and crank bearings (i'll be hitting the how-to section as i've never taken one a part that far)- otherwise it's a good start.

right now thinking orange with white wheels or moss green with red...

What you need to know for 1-pc crank- Left side of crank has left hand threads. Bearings should have slight play until tightening of the lock nut, otherwise they will be too tight.

cool, thanks for the info. the crank isn't nearly bad as the front wheel - i can actually see the gap between the shaft and id of the bearing.
it'll be a trial by fire for me on this - don't think i will screw it up worse than it is.

axle probably spun when someone replaced/re-installed it. Remove the wheel and you'll figure it out. Just watch so it doesnt spin when you re-install it...

Gee Lump, (insert "Leave it to beaver" theme) seeing as how your a local and all, you can come on over Sunday and put it in my stand. Seriously though, shoot me a PM and I would be glad to help out a noob! 8) Later & PEACE!!!!

Huffy Good Vibrations are evil, evil bikes. It's what started my addiction!
p.s.I like the orange and white theme!

Oh, and here's my Good Vibrations 8)

Had this one since it was new (late 70's), only the main frame and handle bars remain. Many miles and hours of "basher" (close relative of "klunker" ) use when I was younger and more resilient took their toll on wheels and fork, and the seat just wasn't appropriate.

Here's a shot with the seat I used, and different bars that were yanked for use elsewhere, but they're probably going back on it soon.

the first thing to go is the bars - i am 6'7", with those bars i look like the bear on the little bike in the circus. i have some mini apes or even drag bars that i'm thinking of running - combined with a bent back seatpost i should buy myself some room. i'm also thinking of fitting a thin 10speed wheel on the front, with drag bars i think it would have a cool look to it.

Dude, you are definitely on the right track. As long as you keep the mentality of "I think it will look cool.", you will ALWAYS be happy with your bikes. Great start! Let's see her when you get done!

here ya go, with apes, springer, SA 3 spd hub & Monark 52T chainring.....its one of my favorite rides. Can't beat the frame geometry for an "off the shelf" frame

i like the springer look - actually trying to trade some stuff to get a rock shox or sililar suspension fork for the front. thinking with that fork, it might have a cool bobber look to it.

Here's a few pics of it as it was when I bought it. I plan to strip it down and redo everything. So far I've just cleaned it up and ridden it. I plan to paint it flat black with red rim hoops, black spokes with chrome nipples, and 1" and 1/2" spikes in between the spokes, Add some fenders, pinstripe, old school leather saddle, and clean the whitewalls up a bit.

Just so you get the idea here's a quickie rendering of a wheel.

The "Goodvibe" posted by Stepchild still has it's stock components. Conventional pre-mtb fork, flat sprung 30's style seat. Also note that your Santa Fe has a larger down tube, usually indicative of lighter tubing. A "Goodvibe" is a heavy bike. You also have steeper, tighter geometry, most noticable in the shortened appearance of the tail section.

It could well be superior from a technical viewpoint, either way, enjoy. And now, back to Lumpy's thread, already in progress. Happy cycling!

don't know exactly the wording to find it, but i found the "loco joe chop". i think the bike might be on hold for a few weeks until my garage is set up. i have a sawzall and welder just begging to be used...
