Hello all…
Just finished painting my own creation. It’s an old Huffy frame
Form the late 70’s. It was a single speed Huffy Rangler…
Did a few modifications to her.
Here is the list…
Frame is painted old caterpillar yellow
New 36 spoke chrome rims (from 80’s predator)
Relaced shimano disk brake hub to back rim with 5 speed (14-17-20-24-28 )
Shifter is an old shimano lark-w twist shift twin cable pull-pull system
Fenders from a murray big rick
Original banana seat
Chrome handle bars and sissy bar (from a donor k-mart bike)
Think that about covers it
Here’s some pictures

Manny Moons...
no the disk is not orginal... found it on a mid 70's j c penneys "10 speed racer"...
the lark-w 5 speed twist shift and 50 tooth chain wheel is from a late 60's early 70's western flyer 26x1 3/8 girls bike...

you have no idea how badly i wish i had taken a pict of the before... it was soooo ruff ..........
i paid $2.98 at a goodwill thrift store, when all the others were $9.98 and up...
handle bars and sissy bar,, badly rusted.....
rims and spokes,, rusted...
plastic fenders,, sun rotted and brittle...
the paint was like chalk...
but the frame was strait and seat had one very small blemish...
i just started hunting doner bikes...
one part here,, one part their,, "HEY THATS KOOL"
i do lace my own rims... it saves me a bundle and it's very satisfying....

fast eddie...

This is kind of late, but I have an old Western Flyer that I am restoring. It has the exact same derailleur setup as your Huffy. Where did you find those replacement derailleur cables?

sorry to tell you this but they have not been made for years :(
i checked ebay (abd still check from time to time) no luck
i got mine free by spraying liquid wrench down the inner cables for a week or better
i did have a bike shop say he could make me a custom cables
but i dont know
it's oddly made at both ends of the cable
there is no way to just pull the cables out
mine are currently working
when one breaks i may check on the custom cable
you might try soaking the inner/outer cable in a pan of liquid wrench
i wish you the best of luck
i'd love to see you get it working to help "keep the old parts alive"
