[Dizzle Problems]

Figure it’s been a bit since I did a build thread. So why not attempt one. As some know, I’ve been on the hunt for a Kona humuhumunukunukuapua'a for some time. As luck would have it, I found a frame. Or, better stated, a friend found a frame and lead me to it!
I believe it to be a ‘95 pre catalog model. I dig the very 90s color.

I’ll aim to use what I can on hand. Being kinda picky, I’m sure I’ll have to hunt a few things down.

Nice! They’re killer hoops. I just need to drill mine out for schrader valves and they’ll be good to go.

So I have a couple headsets on deck. But they predate the frame/build a bit. And I’d really prefer black. eBay tracking says to expect my blackhead tonight. So hoping to get the fork on the frame later today.

I like the Tange Falcon for black headset use. They haven't changed, so new is the same as era models, really.

My stoke quickly subsided when I found one of these locally on craigslist. Bummer, the newer models lack the coolness of the loop tail.
Even though I am an 80s/90s bmx cruiser guy, I am thoroughly enjoying this build.

Nice, you did it right. Often missed by inexperienced wheel builders. The reason to line the hub graphics up with valve hole is so you can see at a quick glance of the hub where the valve stem is for inflating. Covered in wheel building 102 class. Similar to manufacturers installing the wheel reflectors opposite of the valve. That's not just for balancing the weight.

Yup! Headset came in last night, but I didn’t get any shop time. Hoping tonight.

Got the headset and fork in yesterday but failed to get pics. So snapped one tonight after I built the rear wheel. Starting to come together. Fork is an Early 90s USA made SE Landing Gear with cantilever mounts. I really dig the 70s bombers that had coaster rear and canti front, so this is kind of a 90s/modern nod to those builds.

I definitely have bike adhd as I’ve acquired two more frames since starting this. And was in the middle of 3 builds when I decided to push this Kona to the front. This one is coming together quickly though.

Maybe I should do a build thread inside a build thread? Because this USA made Nishiki Ariel just got here and It really needs to be built up.

So, sometimes it’s a swing and a miss. Have this GT crank and Sugino ring and really wanted em to work. But just won’t. (How I’d like) so, back to the parts boxes to look for a crank set up I want to run.

It doesn’t. But it just doesn’t sound/feel right. Plus there’s a tiny bit of play between the sprocket and the arm I just can’t get rid of. Easily resolved if I just swap to a mid school or modern spider or sprocket. But, I wanna think on it a bit first. Wanted to do black crank/ silver sprocket, but may have to go the opposite of that.
I also wanted this bike at 61-63 gear inches. So I’ll have to play around with what I’ve got to see what can get it done.
Most of my cruisers are geared in the 58-60 gear inches area, and I want this just a tiny bit higher.

So, I located the cranks I want for this Kona. Seems it just may be a little time until I get them. So, while I’ve been waiting I went ahead with that Nishiki. Parts bin build, but I dig it.

Will likely swap the fizik saddle out for a wtb one I have that I just couldn’t reach at the moment. But, this thing rips! Mostly XT groupo, 1-9, 34-11/46. Climbs nice
