I would like to ask what you all think.
As I said before we don't see a lot of Schwinn's if any...
.....in Western Canada.

I can get this Schwinn Speedster for about $300.00 American.

Is this good???
here is the right up and Pic...

1960 Schwinn Speedster. All original right down to the Schwinn Westwind tires. Three speed Sturmey Archer hub and shifter works as it should. Paint is nice, chrome is better.

this is the only pic I have..

what are your thoughts,
thanks for the input

peace,
Kev.

I'd say maybe...

If the bike is as original as stated, and in good-to-better condition, it's probably not a bad deal. Trying to build an nice Schwinn resto from parts can add up in a hurry.

But,

If you're looking for something to customize, you would probably do better to find something less original or in rougher condition.

Myself, I would want to see some clear, close-up detail photos before plunking down the money.

While Schwinns are indeed hard to come by in western Canada, they're not impossible to get ( Internet !!! ). How badly do you want this particular bike?

Shoot me a PM - I may have a line on a couple of Schwinns in Calgary.

Just my $0.02

*As of this writing, $300US = $352.75CDN, for those keeping track

Looks like a nice old bike. I don't know if I'd shell out that much cash for it though, but, that's just me.

It really depends on how much 300 dollars is worth to you and how much a schwinn is worth to you.

btw, that bike has been listed for 2 weeks now, go see it with 200 dollars in your front pocket and maybe 40 dollars in your wallet. Offer the 200 then the 40, and if he still wants more ask if there are any banks or atms near by, you might just wear him down.

I like track bikes, in particular keirin bikes, used keirin bikes at that. They are hard to find in america and are usually small frame sizes. Sooner or later I'll find one I like in my size, when I do, I might end up paying a premium for it. They're worth more to me because I don't see them around ever.

I would Ride it as is...
It wouldn't be a restoration project for me...
..and definatly not a Rat Rod Project.

I'm gonna sleep on it..it's WAY above the amount
I usually pay for a bike.

Thanks MP,

Kev.

I saw ....it's been on their for 2 ,your right.
I also know he buys low..and sells VERY high.

He bought 2 CCM"s from a Friend at 100.00
and now has them re-listed for $235.00

I'm gonna sleep on this one..
I was just wondering what a Schwinn Speedster was worth..
I know little about Schwinn's..but I like that model.

Thanks for the input,
Kev.

I'd say that was probably a fair price for the year model and the style. The fact that it's all original and all there is a big plus.

Like others have stated...just depends on what you want to do with it. I'd love to have one like this for cruising around.

Now if you could get it for $200...

bike

I cant tell because the picture is small but I dont think its a speedster I know a lot about schwinns Because I have FIFTY or more old schwinns. If its a speedster it will have 24x1-3/8 tires or 26x1-3/8 tires. T/Y TONY :)

thanks Tony,
I'll watch for it when I go and look at it..

I think he's got an old Raleigh MX with Skyways as well..
That is more intersting to me than the schwinn..

I'd love some Tuff's

Thanks again..

Middle-weights are popular right now !

I will have to dis-agree with Tony, I have seen the Speedster model as a middle-weight a few times. It is a fairly rare find however. He is asking a premium price, therefore to justify it, it should be in "premium" condition. It should have Schwinn Tubular S-7 wheels on it and they will be stamped on the wheels exactly like that. If your not familiar with them, they are knurled down the center and stamped to identify what they are.A nice set of S-7 wheels can bring $100.00 all by themselves. If you can find out what year it is, I can give you more items to look for to either justify or decrease the asking price. Later & PEACE!!! 8)

I went and saw the bike today..it has,
Schwinn Tubular S-7 wheels
Origonal paint..which has only the usuall wear and scratches
Westwind tires are a bit crackly..
Sturmey Archer 3 Speed is a bit funky when it shifts..
nothing to loose sleep over.

It's a really nice bike......but I'll wait.

He knows his bikes and he has a few beauties...so the price is Fixed.
he won't bargain lower......

it turns out I know his wife from years ago in JR. Highschool days..

and The seller is a GREAT guy who I am sure I will hook up with
again for a Ride.

I'm gonna pass on er for now.

for those who have been following along with the story,
The Rear Hub is a Sturmey Archer( dated AW 60 )
and the Schwinn serial number is "E030725"

thanks for all the help in the thread guys,
peace,
Kev.

hey kev i know a bunch about those because they are one of my fav models. i will have to look up the date code but being that the hub says 60 it is probably a 61 or 62. the one i own is a 53 and it has a hand shifted bendex 2 speed. basicly the same bike as that one. as far as value i would say that if it was really nice and clean and everything worked then sure 300 is fair. not really a steal but i have seen them go for more. obviously the earlier ones are worth more but that looks to be a very nice one. i will take a look at my code book and let cha know. and tony dont get mad before i knew there was a middweight speedster i would have said the same thing then i saw one in person lol. one thing i have learned with schwinns is dont asume they made THAT bike in THAT year with THAT stuff on it
