I have to agree with the other folks, that paint even with the scratches is just right for that bike. Of course you can build it anyway you want but original 3-spd middleweights are pretty rare.

When cleaning it, just be careful around that chainguard silkscreen- some waxes and cleaners (even water!) can make that paint just wash away.

The fork issue may not be so bad. I had really good luck straightening one for a speedster. The guy had twisted it pretty good trying to get off a VERY stuck headset nut. But a 2" pipe over the fork legs, and a good big vise, and it went right back where it was supposed to.

Good luck, awesome bike. I think the Mark IV is a one year only, like 1964? Love to find one like that.

Thanks Rob! The scratches are fine...It's the weird decals and hack paint job I can't stand. :x Plus the tank is missing one of the logos and the other one is wrong (technically)... I think the Mark IV was made a few years...This one is a 1961 (ser# L140165). I'm sure I can get that fork straight... Thanks for the heads-up on the chain guard. That's gonna stay 100% 'as is'! :D

Dang!! I forgot that you owned one of these too... I REALLY wish I'd run into you at the AA Show...But anyway I promised that this would be the first bike I worked on this season...Well not the FIRST bike....

As I said the fork was bent...(which the seller failed to mention in the description or during the transaction..) but that's cool, because the price I got it for made it worth the effort! So I put the "Jag in the rack and this is what I saw:

So I commenced to break it down:

To get to this:

But I got the fork all straightend out! I broke my conduit bender AND my cheapie bench vice! :p But I wasn't gonna be deterred!! So I took the fork to work and slid it in between the grating on the landing that goes down to the boiler room. Slipped a pipe over the steerer tube and gently benter' straight! To get this:

I bought a speedo with a reeeal nice cable at the 'show...But it was too short! :x But Hey! The Flying Dingo hooked me up with TWO cables and TWO gear drives!!! You rock, Dingo!!! Thanks! So I put this speedo on that I had around and one of Dingo's cables will go on it ASAP! I also bought all new graphics for it from the fine folks (Lisa! ) at Memory Lane...Pics as I get to it... Thanks for lookin'!

Well...I think I'm gonna keep the aftermarket one...The original one is in bad shape and it's hard as a rock! Did they ever have any padding? Hopefully a period correct one in better shape will come my way...
