We played Daniel Boone in the woods using cut down branches as muskets when we were kids...and weven were happy! Unfortunately we graduated to BB guns and used my Dad's Ford tail lights as bulls eyes. We mostly missed but he still wasn't all that happy!

We actually had to get up out of our chairs to change the channel on the tv. Don't remember having a Microwave oven either.

Yup, same with us....got home from school, watched the "Brady Bunch" then outside to play until dinner time

Same here on all levels God the good ole times long gone I use cell as needed. Got the son out of the habit a round me while house workin on weekends to try to disconnect to know it's there but NOT at that nessasary moment. Time can WAIT till later.

I still live in the same neiborhood I grew up in as a kid, back then, you had nothing to worry about. At least from a kids perspective.Lol! Now I see all kinds of riftraft walking around, I'm 50 years old, and I have an 8 yr. old son that I let play around my old stomping ground. It's just not the same as when I grew up though, and it makes me sad to think that. I have to really watch out for people now, no matter where I'm at with him. Man I miss the good ol days!

I still have one of our old phones from when I was a kid. In the early days we were on a "party line". You actually shared the line with some of your neighbors. So, if they were on the phone, you would have to wait till they were done before making a call. Made for some pretty interesting snooping though.

I think that, overall in America, the crime rate has gone down, but the paranoia rate has gone up. I'm not afraid of my neighbors, and i wouldn't hesitate to sleep with my front door open, so long as the screen door was shut. The raccoons out my way are pretty rough....

Not in my neck of the woods, I live in a pretty decent neiborhood, trust me.....,you wouldn't sleep with the front door open. I live in Stockton, Ca. The crime rate has definitely Not gone down, and the only Windows I sleep with open at times is my upstairs bedroom windows. Trust me, I wish this wasn't the case.

I remember when we got our first color TV. Man, it was like being at the movies! We never locked our doors unless we were out of town & at night. Always kept the car keys under the floormat. All our neighbors knew where the spare house key was hidden & we knew where theirs was in case it was locked. The good ole days: Andy Griffith, Little Rascals, Green Acres, Lawrence Welk, etc.

My Dad bought our first color TV when Mom and us kids were away visiting relatives ( he had to stay home and work). We only got one station even with our antenna tower setup. WLUC - TV Marquette Mi.
At that time, in our remote location in Michigan's UP this station was affiliated with all 3 major networks and only broadcasted in Black and white. Even though the TV said "RCA new vista color" NOTHING was in color, Until "Wonderful world of Color" came on Sunday evening ! For a while, that was our only color program...

I don't know about Stockton CA specifically, but the rate of crime per 100,000ppl in the USA, overall, is lower now than it has ever been since 1967. Since they started taking data on this stuff, the worst years were in the 80s and 90s, and crime has been steadily declining since y2k. I live 4.5 miles from Camden; it's often touted as being one of the most dangerous cities in the nation. (Number 6 on this list on murder rates http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/top-lists/highest-murder-rate-cities/ ) and i gotta tell you; i ain't scared to walk at night, or leave my doors/first floor windows open if I'm home. (Windows are open whether i'm home or not; gets too stuffy otherwise.) Then again, i don't have kids.
