If you REALLY want the new Felt Zig Zag Tires...

I can't tell if the price is for one or a pair. Consider this, Felt gets $30 for a 24x3" tire. That is not cheap at all. If I had to guess it is a typo. I would imagine the tires are about $75 each or you could find something that would still put a smile on your face for $75 each. The last set of tires I bought came from Germany and cost more than the powder coating on the bike,

Yeah, I just saw that. $150 per tire. Youch. I gotta admit, I've bought expensive tires before, and i'll buy expensive tires again, i'm sure. I can totally appreciate cheap tires and I've got some $10/each jawns on bikes right now, no worries, but I gotta confess: I love me some expensive rubber. And, although I've yet to rock a fat bike, I have noticed that the fat tires tend to run a fair bit more than their thinner brethren. But, with all that being said: Felt is crazy to be asking that much for those tires. Felt typically sells nice-looking, mediocre-quality tires for low- to mid-prices. I don't think the Zig-Zags nor Felt have enough cache to command that kinda price....
I think its because partly folk on forums have got all excited about them when they first saw them and wanted them, so felts bumping up the popularity fees a bit, I was going to get the new 3 speed but bought the new red baron instead in black, looks nicer, its cheaper and more desirable I reckon!
You likely can add a 3 speed for less than the factory upgrade. They use Shimano rear hugs. I have owned several (I even have a new one on my fridge) and they have been problem free.

In my opinion the Thick Brick is an awesome tire. I have run them on most of my builds. At the $30 price point for a Thick Brick you just cant beat it. I see mountain bike/roadie tires at 2-3 times that much all day.
I can't justify spending $300 for rubber and wont be building any bikes around that tire unless it's a customer request.

From what I've been able to gather, this is made for Felt by Zee Rubber, the same folks who make the Origin8 and most of the Surly fat bike tires, and I'd be willing to bit they're a limited run on the same casings as their already-available 3.8's (Same as the Black Floyds). New tire molds aren't cheap, and Felt has to amortize those costs over what is likely a somewhat limited production run.
What this means for builders is this: builders that haven't already become tired of the dated fat tire look, and want to wow everybody at the next show, will pony up the cash, and run a Zig Zag or two on their ride. Everybody who waits will probably get tires from a second, delayed run, and get them for something closer to the $89 each price being charged for the Floyds.

I spoke with Doug Martin at Felt several months ago about these bikes and the tires. In so many words he said that having those tires made was one of the biggest challenges of the project. He mentioned that they spent a lot of time designing them and having them produced and it wasn't cheap. At that point they were not available for purchase.
Doubtful, unless Zig Zag was in the tire business at some point.
