I just sold this late 40' Packard badged Schwinn to a local artist for a pile of cash. He saw it and just had to have it... wait for it... for his garden!

Yup, I just sold a bike that some guy is going to intentionally let a bike rust in his back yard. Too funny.

Here is the crazy part, though. Since he was using it as yard art, I asked him if he would mind if I pulled a couple parts off. He was fine with me taking the truss rods, headlight, tank and horn. Aside from the wheels, they were the reason I picked this bike up in the first place! He only wanted to keep the basket, so he would have a place to put flowers. :?

And here is where things get really crazy. He gave me his business card as he left, giddy as a schoolgirl. He was curious if I knew where to find more old bikes.

I don't know, man... I don't think that I would have sold a bike to someone knowing that it'll just sit in the yard to rust. That bike is not in that bad of a shape.

It's like selling an old all original car to someone that's going to hot-rod it or worse turn it into a lowrider.

But, to each his own.

More old bikes? Sorry, no more. You got the last one. GOOD BYE :!:

Let that Betty rust in the rain until it turns to dust! It'll just make the Schwinns in my basement worth more. It's just supply and demand. Glad you pulled the light and tank, though. 8) B607

X2. I had my chevette up for sale and someone wanted to buy it to make it a drag car, I told him it wasn't for sale anymore.

does see like a good waste of a totally good bike to let it just set in the front yard and rust, but like said, to each their own. at least you got off some of the good parts before the bike was taken away to go in its yard coma. then again, i can see the artistic value of the bike.

I hear the same argument on the BMX boards...and the Hot Wheels boards, etc.

If you had it for sale and got what you felt was a fair price for it who cares what the buyer is going to do with it? You let it go and it's the new owners to destroy...
