I have a friend of a friend wanting to sell me a bike. its a 50's huffy beach cruiser. looks like it wasn't abused but will need a lot of elbow grease. They are asking $40 and staying firm. Im still a little new at picking things up but want to know what other people though. I know everything out there is in the eye of the beholder but is there a good range when looking for bikes in general? I don't want to overpay but if i look at say.... an old beach cruiser no big name needs some work $XX.XX is a good price so i dont kick myself later.

Hard to tell without a picture, but it depends on what you want to do with it. Depending on the age and components there may be no resale value. If you want it for a project bike, then $40 may not be a bad start for what you have in mind.

Post a picture here for sure. There are plenty of members on the forums that can tell you all about whatever it is that you found.

Be aware that your bike may be something a lot newer than the 1950's. I don't know how many times someone had a "50 year-old balloon tire bike" only to find it is a dusty Huffy Good Vibrations cruiser that came from the local K-Mart

$40.00 is fair for almost anything if the tires hold air and it can be ridden.

Nothing unless you chase a lead expecting to find a much older bike and are greeted with a newer beach cruiser.

Hi, You never said if you are buying it to ride, or if you are thinking that you are a reseller. Anyone at any swap will buy a 30.00 bike if you can ride it. If it looks better the price goes up a bit. Is it a rider for you or is it something that you are thinking you are going to buy and make money on reselling?
