The previous owner of this wheel did not install the anti turn washer correctly and shredded the axle. I tried to ease a new bolt on there, but it is pretty messed up.

So my question is... can just the axle be replaced easily on a Nexus 3?

i'd attemp finding a dye that will allow you to re-thread the axle. looks like you have enough metal to work with.

try talking to your lbs about getting a new one? that one looks pretty bad. you might get one for free, but you might not, based on the negligence by the previous owner.

the problem is that the flat spots for the no turn washer are completely rounded off. so even if i can rethread, the washer will spin...

i would try the rethread, even if it had to be one size under. theres gotta be a way to "backyard engineer" the washers into place. jb weld? file new flats and make some kind of bushing to fill the gap? maybe even fab a new washer? id try one of theese ideas, if it dont work, your left with a cool hub with a junk axle. hey, thats what you got now! so you cant hurt it any by trying. i realize this doesnt answer your original question, sorry.

HA!
Oddly enough though, I did lubricate this hub with garlic butter. Everyrime the brake gets hot it smells delicious!
