I acquired my dad's old 90's Schwinn Frontier that he thought he would ride more once he retired but didn't. It was sitting in my mom's garage (Dad since passed away) and I offered to take it off her hands.

I hate the bad 90's graphics and loathe the color but I made the best of it and added some doo dads and new handlebars

It's a little better but I still hate the color. I have some fenders I am hoping to put on.
I would paint the bike but I am scared to death to take it apart and not being able to put it back together again. Anyone St. Louis Rat Rodders want to help me out?
BTW I hid the bad graphics with red duct tape....hard to see from the picture.

Love the duct tape trick! I have some strategically placed duct tape on a few of my bikes, just because I could not decide if I wanted to remove a decal completely or not, so covered it up like that.

Very nice transformation. I think a chrome goose neck would look nice. But if you really need one that tall it may be hard to find in chrome.

Looky what I got today!

It's a Murray Monterey year unknown. Got it for 40 buh of CL. It looks better on camera than in person. I haven't spent too much time with it yet but it looks like the graphics on the bike are all decals. I like the color purple so I may not need to paint it. I do plan on adding a nexus 7 speed hub to save my knees and make a lay back seat post that will support my fat fanny.

Nice!Look on the little black sticker at the bottom of the seat stay.It has the year and month on it.I picked up a ladies version of a Monterey Sat.It is an 80.It is the ugly tan.All original with rotten ww tires. It had been hanging for about 20 years.

those were 80's bikes as far s i know of. Had a few of them and theyre all pretty solid bikes. The seat on those bikes are one of the more comfortable seats i've road on too. The Frontier doesnt look like a bad ride either, I even liked the original decals too :)

Oh, I see it...07 81. I was looking for country of origin but I didn't see one so I'm guessing it was made in the US. Is that correct? I was 11 when this was built and a crusier was the so not the kind of bike I wanted. I still had an old rollfast that was waaaaaayyyy too small for me (it may have been a 16 inch) the muscle bike craze was over and it was all BMX for us kids by then. I yanked off the fenders and chain guard, put some nobby tires and a BMX seat and still looked redonkulus. I was almost 6 feet even then riding a heavily modified 16 inch rollfast!
Wish I still had it.
Weird that I EXPECTED it to be made overseas. Sad really.
I may leave the paint as is...what goes good with purple?

Since I now have the Murray I no longer need all the bling on my Schwinn. So in 3 months it's had 4 different handlebars, 2 different seats, fenders, a rear rack and baskets. I just can't make up my mind.

Well I'd say to keep your dad's old bike up for safe keeping and also you wont have to worry about messing it up or breaking something. With that one you can tinker around with and do whatever you want and still have a back up. Also your new bike should be alittle easier to modify with no shifters and gears etc. so you'll have a easier time changing parts out and such. I like the color combo of your new one, as far as colors go along with it I'd say chrome, black, or white. Thos go good with anything lol . Well I've rambled enough, have fun building and don't be shy to ask question as you go ! That's why there's a " how to " section " and people on here are more than happy to help. Have fun man and welcome to the forums !!

Here I go painting it. I don't have a stand and the handle bars help it lay against the tree stump better. It looks really good so far. It's not a show peice, nor a restoration so if my paint job isn't perfect, that's alright. I have some tan tires and a tan saddle and grips coming. I'm still unsure what to do with the fenders. Same color? Black? Use the chrome ones I have laying around? I'm not going for a military look despite the color. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I'm going to do something with this to make a head decal.

For future reference... I hang mine by a straightened coat hanger and a tree or something. On the bike you can hook the coat hanger in one of the small holes in one of the cross braces on the rear triangle. Or on this bike there's small holes in the drop outs.
