Has anybody stripped the paint off of a newer aluminum framed bike and then polished it. I picked up a Del Sol a while back and was just wondering if anybody had done it and what luck they had.

Back in business? I would imagine it would work except the hard to reach areas might be tough especially on a cantilever frame.

Seen it done on the mtbr singlespeed forums on, came out looking good. Someone did a REdline singlespeed build in "the other bikes" on here may have done it also, they at least polished it up real nice.

Ok Clancy I'm not dead ...just taking a break . I ran a couple of my builds on cl for $250 and got no bites at all. Is silly to keep building them with no market for sales. They pile up like rabbits. How many bikes does one person really need. Ok I wont ask that question here , because everybody here dosent have a normal in touch with reality on how many is enough...including myself. Its getting hard to walk around any of the storage spots i have.

The correct number of bikes is N+1, where N=the number of bikes you currently have.

I learned that on the internet, so you know it's true :D

That is the most true and funniest thing I have heard for awhile, especially since I just picked up another bike from CL.

My brother stripped a walmart lajoy bike with some car paint stripper, i dont recal the name but it was some harsh stuff, then polished the frame Looked real purdy and sold it to his buddy for like 75 bucks

As far as the normal in touch with reality coment, What the heck are you talkin about?

I'm sure that everybody here understands that we all suffer from some bike addiction/sickness. It seems to take a few weeks and then you catch it. Its not airborn and its not passed through personel contact. It has to be visual is all I can figure out. I'm thinking its the fact that we all look at each others builds and the virus is passed that way. But I'm not alltogether sure its not electronic ,because when a person gets to the site they get the sickness. It may come out of your computer.

It is grease born.

They are already infected and it brings them here! Aluminum will need occasional re polish, but a lot less attention than steel.

I dont have any pics but I stripped an aluminum Cannondale frame and polished it, all the little tight places were a pain to get all the paint off and polish but looked nice when it was done.

Here's the bike socal jack is referring to.

I polished it by hand using Briteshine wadding polish. I'm in Australia, so I don't know if you can get the exact stuff, but I'm sure there are similar products. It took a while, but the end result was worth it. I give it a quick redo (takes about 5 minutes) every 2-3 weeks.

Glad to see you're back Uncle Stretch. I was just about to ask about you. Thought a Texas twister took you out or something...I could see you going round and round up in the sky on one of your bikes. Gary
