How many times have you seen a great photo of a bike and then your eyes are drawn to the brick or chunk of 2x4 propping it up?

It kills me to see the effort that goes into taking a good photo only to have it diminished by this simple oversight.

Bikes without a kickstand at all would be the most challenging, but a lot of times bikes with kick stands also need a little bit of a boost to get the right stance. This is something that with just a little creative thinking before you head out with your camera can turn a good photo into a great photo!

While there are limitless ways around this problem, one solution that I have found is something that most all of us have in our tool boxes; a 3/8 drive socket. I usually stick a few different sizes/lengths in my pocket for varying situations.

Here's an example...

I'd like to see other ideas!

That is a great idea! I have been toying around with the idea of a stand with an adjustable thread on the end for the same reason, have not tried building it yet, the last bike did not need one...

I've simply photoshopped a brick out of a shot. Many of my bikes have no kickstand, so a heavy piece of thin steel works well, prop from the rear dropout on the side of the bike away from the camera and you usually can't see it. Usually something about 12" long works great, then people can wonder HOW the bike is standing.

I once used the brass from a 30.06 shell to lengthen a kickstand. Another time, Used a piece of road bike handle bar to lengthen the kick stand after adding fatter tires. I drilled a hole in the handle bar, slipped it over the existing kick stand and screwed in a self tapping screw to hold it in place.

mazdaflyer used a claw hammer on this months RRB calendar :D

Photoshop clone tool works wonders.
