This contraption is both awesome and pointless at the same time. I like it, but I wouldn't wanna own one. It'd be cool to take one on a test ride, though.

EDIT: ON second thought, if the guy survives the shooting and makes one for the AW, i'm in.
 
That's pretty neat although honestly I am more intrigued by the coaster brake that activated the front brake also. That's pretty slick and I can actually see that being fairly useful.
 
Shimano has had at least 2 different electronic 3-speed hubs. I had a Giant Simple+ that was battery powered, using a spoke mounted magnet that passed over a sensor that let the unit calculate speed, making shifts accordingly. I still have my TREK Lime, which has a generator front hub to make the juice for the computer/control box mounted under the bottom bracket. This unit lets you set the shift points. I'v had the bike since 2008 and never have had any problems with it.
