Lengthening A Chain

In my latest project, I am ready to put the chain on and it came up a little short. I have another old chain, which is rusted and needs work, but I figured that I could take a few links from that one to make up the deficit from the other one. I have a chain tool, but I am wondering if this is possible and recommended to lengthen a chain ?

Totally. Pop off what you need, and put it on the other one. I do with every build. Just try to push out the rivet enough to slide them apart, but not enough to pop it out completely. It's harder to put back together that way.

if it's a shimano chain, you have to use a new pin every time
