Picked up this old bike this summer and all we know about it is it's a J.C. Higgins. Started tinkering with it this weekend, planning to motorize it, but after some internet browsing realized it might be worth something and maybe we shouldn't tinker with it too much.

Would appreciate if anyone could clue us in on what model it is and possibly narrow down it's age to something more than "1950's". Also, we've decided if it's worth anything we'd rather sell it then restore & motorize it. So any thoughts on value appreciated, too.

Here's the pics:

(eight pics total, if they don't load or you see just a red x at first, just reload/refresh the page)

Thankyou for any and all responses.

Added two more pictures.
Also, in case it's not evident from the pics, the bike was originally red, which someone at some point painted over with green, and then painted on the "49" and "B/Gasser" over the green.

It is a cool bike, but it is missing most parts that make it valuable- both fenders, chainguard, springer rods, and tank. So, it won't be cost effective to restore or even restomod. So go ahead and do whatever you feel like to make it a fun ride.

Thanks for the info. That's why we're trying to figure out what model it is, because we don't know what parts may be missing. But sounds like we don't have to worry about it now and can just proceed with the tinkering.
