:D glad to see the responses. funny thing is, my biggest concern is not what others will say or think about me on it, but will its frame support me and my 220lb weight and powerfull riding style. the flex from the early 60's hawthorne frame is a little scary with its two thin top tubes vs a bigger one piece. any girls bike i get on has that slight frame flex just due to its adjusted geometry that leaves me feeling uneasy.

this shelby was one of the smoothest riding bikes i ever built. stripped it and flipped it 5 wks. ago. and no,nobody ever made fun of me! :) smart people!

cool bike. once you get past the whole girls bike boys bike thing, it opens up about another 1/3rd more bikes out there to ride and build on. mind you my wifes hawthorne isn't pink (its blue, and not bleau) and doen't have a flowery basket, but id still sport it if it did, and yeah... just use the old "i was test riding it for my wife.", excuse. besides the slight frame flex, its a really cool old bike. and remember... step thru frames. although i did concider adding on a conventional top tube for better ridgidity for the frame, but decided unless i could get a nice tube with a slight curve to it, it would ruin th elook.

I keep a breeze around for the honeys, but I end up using it a lot. It's one of the best city bikes I have. Alloy stem and bars, 3 speed coaster laced to deep-Vs, it's quite a happening little ride.
