my local Target has one of those in stock too....to say that the bike is heavy, would be an understatement....those bike's could anchor down a freighter!

But would the fat tires keep that anchor afloat?

Lets see if I can do the math.
Boats displace as much water as the boats weigh.
A gallon of water weighs about 8.3 pounds. The exact amount varies with temperature, salinity, and air pressure. Ignore that, lets use this figure instead:
A cubic inch of water weighs 0.036127 lbs.
A fat tire has how much air volume in cubic inches?
The shape of an inner tube is quite similar to a torus, not exact because of the rim on the one side, but close enough to use one of the torus formulae.
A 26" fat tire rim is the same bsd as any other 26" mtb tire or 559mm (~22 inches).
If we use 4" as the inner tube diameter
a: inner radius of the tube is 22"
b: outer radius of the tube is 22" + 4" = 26"
Volume = 1/4 pi^2 (a + b) ( b-a)^2
Volume = 1894.96 cubic inches x .036127 pounds per cubic inch = 68 pounds.

Yeah, the tires should keep the bike from submerging. There are probably some other trapped air pockets in the bike too that will help keep it floating.

Conversely, if you fill your fat tires with water instead of air, you will be adding 68 pounds to the bike weight and that will sink really fast. Mythbusters should have used a fat bike and with the tires full of water, not air, when they tried to prove you can't ride a bike under water.

Anybody want to do a real world test?

These have been in our local target for at least a month and they are popping up on Craigslist for over $500 with sellers repping them as "RARE" and "LIMITED EDITION"

Our Target had 2:
1 black, 1 white.
$300.00.
the guy at the service desk told me that they were very limited edition.
Said,only select stores got them.
That was in September.

I did buy one. as better components than the Dolomite.
Except for the rear brakes, no disc.

I stopped by Target today where they still have A white Storm Trooper on display. I tried to lift it. OMG, It is soooo heavy. Much heavier than the Beast. The rear wheel was out of true so the rear rim brakes were dragging. The front disk brake barely offered any resistance when fully applied. Typical box mart assembly. Still priced at $208.

One thing I hadn't noticed before is the head tube to frame tube design. There is a gap that just screams, "I'm gonna fail some day".

ugh.
