mens / womens head tube length

Are the mens head tubes shorter than womens? If so, is this true with most older bikes? What are the lengths?

Most mens are shorter. I think Sears bikes had the same lengths for a while, not sure when. As for measurements, they are all a little different

I can tell you about 26" Schwinns. Prewar girls, at least 3 different head tube lengths from '37-'41. Prewar boys were shorter than all 3 of the girls. After the war, Schwinn standardized the boys and girls head tube lengths for ballooners and middleweights, with just a few exceptions. Post war lightweights are all over the place with many diffenent lengths depending on the frame size. You can always cut down and rethread a girls to fit a boys frame, but making one longer takes more skill. Gary
