I made a really rough sketch at work that I thought was kinda cool, so I started building it in CAD. I think that when I'm done with designing it I will plot it full size and use the plots to try and build it.

Cool design! It's ashame that you have to add a BB to pedal it! LOL The lines are clean. I wonder what the riding position will be like. It is always my first thought when someone builds a something new. "Looks cool, but is it comfortable to ride?"

Keep us updated.

Re: Messing around with CAD

riding position doesnt look bad at all, that mock up looks awesome, it will definately be a looker when its off the drawing board :)

Re: Messing around with CAD

Both design are awesome, but I like the sharpness of the frame in your sketch. The frame following the front tire makes it very aggressive and it looks faster just sitting there!

Re: Messing around with CAD

Board,Are you gonna cut/modify an existing frame,or build it from scratch?

Just curious...(us boardtrackers gotta stick together)

Re: Messing around with CAD

where you put the bottom bracket will make your bike very uncomfortable. Here is a frame by NoName customs.

Notice where he put the bottom bracket. It will make it much more cruiserish to ride, but it would be much more comfortable. NoName has provided a ton of frames to the German guys who make the COOLEST bikes. BTW, I DIG the look of your bike.

There is a guy on CBN that has dropouts for sale, Budzilla. Here is a link to their dropouts. They could probably make you some custom ones as well.http://www.chopperbicycle.net/foru ... ge=2&pp=10

ps. I would love to build a bike based off of a frame like yours.

Re: Messing around with CAD

I would deffinatly contact Bud for some dropouts. I picked up a couple of sets for future builds, they are very nice. He had them made by Speed Cult http://speedcult.com/ a company from down by Detroit that makes a bunch of parts for the rat rod car builders. I also have to agree about your bottom bracket, unless you plan pedaling with your knees, it is going to be very uncomfortable...Kelly

Re: Messing around with CAD

Thanks for the input guys I will definatley move the BB forward now. I actually know Lenny from Speed Cult I just had not thought of having him make dropouts thanks for reminding me. I will see him at Autorama in a few weeks and ask him then. I plan on plotting out some plans for this bike here at work. If anyone wants a set I can try to make more and mail them to you.

Re: Messing around with CAD

I had the day off so I played with my bikes and worked on this for awhile. Any comments or suggestions? This will probably be my first build from scratch. I know the way the chain stays and seat stays come together with the seat tube and down tube will be tricky. I also have to rethink my geometry on the front fork. I started modeling a Monark fork and found that I need to space the wheel out farther from the bike(rats!). I have a notcher and plan on buying a bender. Any recommendations for a bender? I like the roller that Eastwood sells but it's really expensive.

Not the bender I had in mind!

Re: Messing around with CAD

i like the first, just based on looks alone i like the curves

2nd has too much goin on on the downtube

3rd one looks like it would kill me  just has a "tough guy" image i couldnt pull off i suppose

but if i had my choice id stick with #1

Re: Messing around with CAD

My vote is for #1. I just like it.

Re: Messing around with CAD

#1, I like curves, #2 & 3 look boxy to me. Great looking bike...Kelly

Re: Messing around with CAD

Well, this might actually happen! The boss was away so I made some plots! Still need to send the drawings out to Lenny at Speed Cult, buy some tubbing, and some sort of bender.
I put the Ratty racer in front of the drawing to give an idea of scale. Oh, and thanks for the input guys. I appreciate it. :)

Re: Messing around with CAD

just as a heads up, if it doesnt have to be PERFECT, you can cut slits into the tubing of your choice and bend it that way. I did that this morning with some 1x1 and it gave me a perfect 90 degree bend, spend some welding and grinding time and you may be where you want for less money!

Re: Messing around with CAD

That looks mean, great stance. Is your bottom bracket far enough forward? To me it still looks really short for your sitting position. I'm looking forward to seeing this bike progress...Kelly
