I have some rectangle mirrors for my bikes, but the clamps are pure garbage. they keep coming loose all the time. I was pondering drilling holes in the bars and mounting them direct, but afraid of making them weaker. then i see that chucklehead with the $2,000 bike has the bars just like i was thinking about doing. So here is my dilema....should i just drill and mount, call it a day, or drill a little oversized and find some tubing and weld it in for strength, or is that overkill?

i drilled holes through a set of apes to mount some old yamaha mirrors.

most of the larger apes are a little heavier guage steel.
never had a problem with those bars, and i rode that bike pretty hard for a couple summers.

welding in a pipe is a great idea though.

i dont think it will hurt.Who puts that much pressure on bars.
roco, you be surprized how much force/leverage is put on a set of apes.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to be sure that they were not gonna fail. My kids and thier friends like to ride the bikes i builld and I just did not want them to get hurt in the process.
