I've have been looking for a Bendix 2 speed shifter cable for about a week now, I know I have one, I just don't know where it's at. I will be doing something like washing dishes, making coffee, putting gas in my car, etc. and all of the sudden another possible spot pops in my head on where it could be, only to turn up empty again. I can't stop thinking about where it could be and it's driving me crazy !!! :x

Just buy another one, then you are sure to find the lost one!

Sounds like you are narrowing it down by finding a lot of places it isn't. So it has to be showing up soon.

I'll probably find it a year from now when I drag the Christmas decorations back out

I have the same problem, I still can't find one of my locks, a wheel set, probably a hundred sets of keys, and a shifter I was going to use on a project but can't find. I've cleaned out the shed twice and it's just not there so it's in the house somewhere.

When I lose something it completely consumes me, I lost a remote after a move and looked for 3 weeks, every spare minute, literally. I sold a metal Elgin boat badge to KJV on here and lost it before I shipped it, got his money and promptly sent it back to him, then spent the next couple weeks looking for it everywhere, finally found it and sent it to him for free.

As for that "always in the last place you look" nonsense, I'm illogical, so to disprove that I always look one more place after finding something I've looked for for a long time. Take that logic!

Not that illogical, I find a good deal on a bike I normally sell it but I am always looking everywhere for another one.

My weakness I can't say no to large amounts of cash. My other weakness I spend it all on more bikes.

Yesterday morning I used my tape measure to measure some spokes. Later in the day I needed it to try to measure the diameter of a hub but it was MIA. I searched all over the garage for it all day while tinkering with other bike stuff, knowing I used it earlier and it must be nearby. I looked so long I started yelling about it and accusing everyone in the house of moving it! :x My blood was boiling! We had a party to go to last night. After I unplugged all my junk in the garage and shutting off the lights I felt defeated in not finding it. I walked through the house cussing loudly about having lost my dang tape measure as I went to the back of the house to shower. When I pulled off my four layers of shirts/sweatshirts imagine my surprise when my tape measure was exposed - clipped to the waistband of my jeans!

When Cody comes over and works in the shop with me it usually ends up that about 25% of the time we have to work is used finding tools that I *just* put down 2 minutes ago. I don't know how exactly my brain works but when we finally find whatever I set down it's like my brain goes *CLICK* "Yeah, I remember putting it there so that I'd know where it was!" :x

I've learned to look on bicycle saddles, they are the right height for quickly setting a tool down, but you tend to look past them when trying to find something. It's one of my brain's favorite tool hiding places.

CCR, keep me in mind if you finally give up and can't find it. I have one squirreled away. I've been hanging on to it and would part with it only because it's needed, not because I want to sell it. Hope that makes sense. In other words, the satisfaction gained from helping another forum member out is much greater than the few bucks I'd gain momentarily in my pocket. Hmmm, come to think of it, I wonder where I put it! :)

Appreciate the offer Pudge, I feel another round of searching coming on

Finding where it's at is worth more than what I am looking for

Had a carbide tip for my die grinder. Use it all the time to grind down everything. Always put it in the
same place when I swap to my cut off wheel. I looked all over my shop and couldn't find it. A couple
days later I looked and it was in a drill under my workbench. I had used the drill because it was
quieter than the die grinder. Getting old sucks.

I'm doing exactly this for a Schwinn Century badge. Except it has been missing for about 2 years. I'm sure I removed it from the bike for paint and set it somewhere stupid. I keep an eye out for it anytime I am moving things around, cleaning, or organizing in the basement.

Yoothgeye says he spends about 25% of his time in the garage looking for whatever he just put down... same here, sometimes more. I have to make an effort to "think" when I am putting something down to do something, else I absentmindedly will set a tool down anywhere... not fun getting older

I've thought about painting all my tools hot pink.
