looks like i'm going to purchase a new bike tomorrow (i need another like i need a hole in the head.) :)
i just can't help myself. i've always wanted a bone shaker, even if its not so old.

any idea's who produced these? i've been told its only 22 years old.(1987)

i'm thinking lowrider. :p lol chopped and stretched. ha ha

3:00am, i cant sleep. i'm like a kid on x-mas eve. :)
think i got an old schwinn coming also. no idea what it is. (long since been painted)
i haven't seen the bike, but heres the clues i was given.
schwinn
1968
kids muscle bike with banana seat "BUT NOT A STINGRAY!" said the old dude. (pointed to my 20" raleigh fireball and said "it looks like that!)
springer front end (pointed to my western flyer and said "looks like that")
the old guy that says he's gonna sell it to me, saw a mongoose neck and said " thats the name, mongoose!"
wanna place your bets now?

i'm thinking its a stingray, i dont think the old guy remembers near as much as he thinks he does. :)

no idea who made those, but that is way cool. maybe i'll hold onto my hopes of one day finding an adult-sized "big wheel" like we all had back in the day. turbo action brake perhaps.

It looks very similar to the Coker Wheelman:

But if it's 22 years old, and doesn't have a pneumatic tire, then I don't know... could be a one-off, or a promotional piece made by a major brand. Coker says the Wheelman has been around since about 1990, so maybe it's newer than you think? Not sure, but I'd love to ride one!

its a norco (canadian west coast mountain bike company) they make great bikes, but had no idea they made anything like this.

heading out to snap some pic's for ya'll

its a norco (west coast canadian mountain bike company) its like riding a unicycle with a training wheel .lol

its actually quite surprizing how well you can speed up/slow down without using the brakes. heck i even did a few burn outs on the lawn.lol

i thought it might be a custom build at first, but i'm pretty sure its factory made. probably a kid's version.

when i sit on it, i can stand flat footed. theres a step (which is irrelovent to somebody 5'10") thats why i think its made for a kid, but the step could just be to stay true to the old styling's of the bonshaker.

kinda a cool use for an old suntour shifter.

one side's been replaced with an old fashion looking bell, the shifter itself activates and locks the rear brake.

Bad to the "bone"! What wheels,27"x16"? I just might have to brush up on welding and save some of those dime store frames I keep stripping and throwing back in the trash!

I have seen those with an FSA name on them as well. I don't think they're kid items, just novelty items, like the little clown bikes you can buy.

The FSA ones, I've seen go for around $100 on Ebay. The Wheelman around $350 or $400 or so. The regular modern-made highwheels, more like a $1,000 or so. And yes, you can buy modern made high-wheel bikes.

Trivia: As best I can tell, "boneshaker" was never used for a high-wheel bike back in the day they were used- it was applied to iron-wheeled predecessors of an earlier era. But what is confusing is that one of the brands of modern-day high-wheel bikes is "Boneshaker". It's like have a car named a Pinto when it's not really a horse.

i knew that. :)

i was born in england and these were always refered to as penny farthing bicycles. a farthing is a 1/4 of a penny. and much smaller than old british pennies.

i've also heard them refered to as the "ordinary bicycle" and "high wheelwheeler."

first time i heard them refered to as a "boneshaker" was here on rrb. i believe it was a post about a museum, and a stationary "boneshaker" you could try peddling.

i've seen more than a few modern companies that sell these modern bone shakers. (or at least thats what they call them)
wasn't sure if anybody would know what i was taking about if i called it a penny farthing bicycle. :)

The Coker Wheelman has a 36" wheel I think. I didn't find the bike on their webpage so I emailed them. This is what they said: "we are planning on coming out with them again later this summer, but we are currently not selling them, sorry!"

I've seen video of them being ridden on the beach. I might just get one, or get the big wheel and tire and fab up a frame.

what ever it is, it sure is fun. :)

i'll get nadine to take some pictures tomorrow of me doing endo's on the beast! still haven't mastered riding backwards.
with such a tight turning radius, its easly navigated through the house. :) :) :) if your not careful it will jack knife on ya real quick if you turn to sharply.
