There was one of these for sale at an antique store here that I wanted but was more than I wanted to spend. It was Italian made if I recall correctly.
Here's one at our Art Of The Bike show

I have two highwheelers, They were made in the mid 70s by a company in St. Louis Mo. and sold for $600 in 1976. I bought the red one in 77 and the other I got when I bought the shop. They are alot of fun to ride, you get alot of looks But its a long way down when you crash. lol

So does Kenda

Kenda also makes a whitewall 16", though I'm not sure if it's the same size 16" yours has.

I haven't seen anything else in 27" but if I do, I'll post it up!

this certainly isn't a bike for traveling any sort of distance, but its a heck of a treat to ride around the block.

i dont wanna appear a know it all( 'cause i aint), but the bike yer talkin' about is a penny farthing or maybe a hi-wheel.

a bone-shaker looks like this.

You're right, it's not a boneshaker... but it's still cool! I've always heard them referred to as "highwheelers" but "Penny-farthing" is actually a more common nickname. Regardless, I'd love to ride one.

i knew that. :)

i was born in england and these were always refered to as penny farthing bicycles. a farthing is a 1/4 of a penny. and much smaller than old british pennies.
800px-Penny_Farthing_Coins.jpg

i've also heard them refered to as the "ordinary bicycle" and "high wheelwheeler."

first time i heard them refered to as a "boneshaker" was here on rrb. i believe it was a post about a museum, and a stationary "boneshaker" you could try peddling.

i've seen more than a few modern companies that sell these modern bone shakers. (or at least thats what they call them)
wasn't sure if anybody would know what i was taking about if i called it a penny farthing bicycle. :)

I have a book called "THE BICYCLE" Boneshakers,Highwheelers and other celebrated cycles. By Gilbert King
