Ok I have been ignoring my colson clone and so I changed the front forks. It has 26 x 3 kenda's on it . I went with a regular fork and decided to put the front off of a monark springer I had laying around. I couldnt use the back because the tire wont fit. My question is I see several guys here change the forks and never run one with a bend in it . Is there some reason I shouldnt do this? It seems to work good . I could cut the bend tubes off and weld straight ones on there ,but it really dosent look that bad and I dont need the extra work. Am I missing something here? Any help will be appreciated.

I though about that but I hate to messup an original monark springer in good shape. I have a repop one that I might bend. I think the front part of them is not the part that breaks.

There should be no functional reason why you couldn't run it as you have it now. I imagine the only reason most run a straight fork is aesthetics. I'll take function over form any day. Especially when it means less work.

you making any frames soon?

I have been running a similar setup on my Hawthorne duralium and it works great. As far as the function of the fork is concerned you aren't really changing anything. The length of the rocker is what sets the spring rate.

Thanks Uncle Stretch, but if you get an old VW you better be prepared to go slow :) 36 HP and shaped like a brick don't make for freeway flyin :D

I went back to the ...just regular front fork. It kinda looked funny . I ave a bunch of the forks and im going to cut one off and weld in some straight tubing and do one that way. Just got a full plate ..especially getting the elgin today from necessaryevil. Gotta figure out a build on that one now.

Hey 2manybikes I was there and have done that. I got a vw camper one time. It went 71 mph ..thinking with all the weight of the camper stuff taken out it would go faster. Spent the whole weekend taking all the stuff out....72 mph. I almost cried and it took me longer to put it all back in.

Wind resistance is an amazingly powerful force to overcome. The latest car that broke the land speed record is quite heavy, but aerodynamically slippery.

The only thing I could see running into with your curved fork setup, stretch, would be some lead/trail alignment issues. THe monarch forks are straight because the piece that goes between the front and back parts gives your front thire the same offset as iff you had a curved standard fork on it. By bolting that part to a curved fork, you are putting the front wheel a little farther out. Kinda the same way as if you flipped a rattrap springer. It's a little bit looser feeling in the steering, but not much... That's my opinion...
