I had to put a head tube gusset in there just to keep the theme right, most likely did not need it, but style points forced the issue. Bike was a little squeaky and the swing arm was rubbing on one side so I tweaked it out a bit, hopefully that will fix the issue. Boxed in the rear end and kissed the frame with a disc to smooth out my welds etc. I don't think I will paint it, I sorta like the left in the back yard since Regan was in office look. I am contemplating making a loaf style seat for it. Bike is HEAVY and is a hard slog to ride it up hills, goes down hill great. I guess the next step to to add the story behind the bike which will develop in the next couple weeks. I will first subject it to the nerds at a local vintage bmx show where I'm sure I will be assailed with harsh criticism by a bunch of guys who never ride their bikes (yes, I don't really care if it was not obvious) and then on the 4th I will be doing a crazy downhill run with it-the true test! I will keep you posted!!!!!

Yeah at the same spot they were giving my friend some crap that his 1980 King Sting was not "correct" and he was like "What do you know, I've had this bike since 1980, where have you been?" I expect similar treatment.....

Separating the proverbial wheat from the chaff is easier online, but you know there may be a few cool people there who appreciate your vision and make it all worthwhile.

I'm sure you are right, I used to host a swap at my shop for 10 years and there were lots of cool heads but also a lot of "them".

That is Saturday....my friends (the whole reason I was going) can't make it now. but I told people I'd be there, I'd rather be working on my van, but oh well, I will weather the storm regardless....

small update:

Made some reinforcements for the shock mount and put a spacer in the rear end to stop the metal on metal action... The true test will be on

the 4th. I still want to make a loaf seat for it but I will most likely crash on the 4th and I don't want to wreck it on my first outing with it, so I have a lot of time to do that, I can get back to it.

Show went way better than expected. I got lots of compliments! I let people ride the bike, lots of people had questions about it. I'd say I was on a first name basis with a quarter to a third of the people there, some have rode with us, a few have even been to my house so the vibe was not what I expected. I got a few hugs! I have been in the LA bike scene for a very long time so I guess that changed the dynamic from when I was getting into it oin the 1990's. I was pleasantly surprised, glad my perceptions of what would happen were wrong. Lots of blinged out cruisers and rare stuff, lots of cool customized bikes from the 1970's which is my favorite era of bmx. Next up is Coaster Brake Challenge!!!!
