Re: Mosby's Raiders | Cut Through the Wind 5/22

Is that spring steel you are using for your leafs... err... leaves?

Those are actually the handlebars made out of schwinn stingray forks. I mounted the handlebar stems directly to the top crown of the fork. Drilled a 3/8 inch hole in the top of each fork crown and threaded a rod all the way down the fork leg for strength. I havent made much progress on building the leaf springs yet, but I am using 3/16 plate steel for the leaf springs.

Let me know how the mild steel holds up under spring duty, I'm interested in seeing if it will bend.

Re: Mosby's Raiders | Jack & Coke

Looks like a good size there.
I used a bomber size beer bottle for a tank last year on BEER RUN.

Out of curiosity, who were the finalists last year????

Here they are on the bonus trophies that I made (with some graphics help from Petrohead).

The only other one was the BEER RUN - Uncanny Rat Stout which I had made since I own the Kingfish Bottling Co.

P.S. If anyone has a set of 24 x 3.0 white or cream tires, or knows a place to get them, please let me know. Much appreciated!!!!

Dr. Tankenstein will get you hooked up.

Re: Mosby's Raiders | 24's test fit

Beauty bike!!!!
Love the tank and it's placement and the low nanner.

Re: Mosby's Raiders | 24's test fit

Personally I like the tank better all the way back, like you had pictured on the last page (pg 4).
Better flow with the seat and lines and all... Great bike so far ...

Re: Mosby's Raiders | 24's test fit

I like the direction you're headed. The seat and tank look great :!:

Thanks guys, I can't wait to get my 24 x3's and upholster the saddle and get the mounts fabbed up. I don't want to make the saddle mounts until i get the new tires cause I want to make sure everything is cut twice and measured once. Wait, reverse that. I am thinking about cream leather and maybe a maroon enbroidery (ambitious).

I'm totally up in the air on the tank. This pic below, it is slid back to the seat tube and the line of the saddle and the tank match the top tube really well.

Any comments or suggestions are always welcome......

This is my vote on the tank position. The position around the bar makes it somehow look heavier(?) or something...

Go with your gut... it's been doing great so far! Rg

Re: Mosby's Raiders | Tank and Seat

Wait, did you strip those great looking tanks!!!!!!!!
Aw man, I loved the paint on those tins!!!
It's your build though, so rock on.

Re: Mosby's Raiders | Tank and Seat

I agree with RG on the position.

I know. I had a few skipped heartbeats doing it, but I did take closeup pictures of both sides so I can have a stencil done. They were missing some huge areas of paint which was actually flaking off.

I always have anxiety when I put original paint parts in the blasting cabinet!!

X2 on the original tank position.

Re: Mosby's Raiders | Tank and Seat

Yeah,I have to agree with you guys.Anywhere in front of the seat tube is best. And share your anxiety when stripping parts sometimes.I'm sure you made the right choice.Lookin' good 8) 8)
