mountain cruiser?

I saw and interesting bike the other day locked up on the street. i believe the sticker said MT. CRUISER. it was a cantilever style cruiser frame, but it looked like it was fitted with 90s mountain bike parts. a welded stem, straight mountain bike bars, knobby tires aluminum rims, and cantilever brakes. the crank was buried in the snow so i couldn't see if it had a euro bb or what. i thought it was kind of cool.

I just sold a frame and fork from a bike like that. It was a Canadian CCM, don't remember the model name, if it had one. 26" Cromoly cantilever frame and fork, everything else was standard MTB stuff. Cool bike, but it was missing the original bars and shifters. It was a 3 piece crank.

I found it, it was a CCM North 44. Looks like about $500 new in 1998. This is what a complete one looks like:

now i really want to go see if this bike is still on that street. I'm kind of surprised no one knows the bike i saw.

Ok i saw this bike again today, it's a Ross Mt. Cruiser. Google images comes up blank. Anyone know anything?

Yeah that's it. Im thinking they changed a bunch of stuff on the one in the pic. The one I see is definitely more mountain bike looking. It has a black welded steel MTB stem and black straight bars and knobby tires.

I'm currently making a late model box store schwinn jaguar cantilever frame into a mountain bike of sorts. It already has a 6speed gear set, alloy wheels, side pull brakes etc. Biggest change is swapping out the cruiser bars for straight bars.
I'm unsure if I can convert the single speed, two piece bottom bracket to a two or three speed though.

I always wanted to do that for a beater but with the amount of bikes I have it will probably always be just an idea. I just saw one for auction last week for 12$ but had to pass. Every time I see one of those schwinn I think "instant klunker".
